i was just loading need 4 speed underground and this popped up
P2010001.jpg

WTF!!!!! Ive loaded this game many times without any problems and now i get this.
What is this?

It's called a blue screen, one of window's famous attributes.

Usually aren't too serious, and that one probably means nothing, so just restart, and be on your way, unless your computer won't reboot, or start, then thats a problem.

k, it restarted fine, but now every time i start need 4 speed, i hear a click and then that shows. and this is every time, and only with need 4 speed.

My laptop sometimes has bouts of BSODs. It will run fine for months then it will crash complaining about the vid card driver(even though i changed nothing) then it might do that for a week, then it goes away. Might be aging hardware, or it might just be Windows' most popular feature. If it happens again soon then its worth worrying about.

That means you're computer is going to blow up.

But seriously, I don't think there is anything to be worried about, but if you're really worried, run a HD Diagnostic tool (probably where the clicking is coming from), and if that turns up fine, Do a Defrag.

ahh... in that case you might want to do a google search and see if that game has had problems for other people, get all updates.. ect...

i have been running the game fine with this setup, i just reinstalled the game and it did the same exact thing. so im going to do a full re-format and new installation of all drivers(i needed a new format anyways) and see how that works. ill post back

You need to de-rice your car in need for speed, remove the huge muffler tip and giant spoiler.

ehehhehehehehhe, i de-riced my vehicels by formating. and now it works after i formated. thats just weird!

well i installed battlfield 1942. and now it does it right when i load that game. i still hear a click in my computer before it goes to the BSOD. So now i think its a hardware problem. Do you guys think its the hardrive, memory,............ And thank god for Dell warrenties. Im going to call them today. There just going to tell me all things ive already tried though.

well, i just talked to Dell. i actaully got a smart person. we talked about doom 3 and counterstrike for like 20 minutes. There sending me 2 brand new 74 gb raptors, overnight shipping.

you sir are a god111 you have proven that there is intelligence in the world of free tech support. you are envied by many

well they said they where suppost to send me both 74gb drives. but they just sent me one. so i just replaced my C drive wich my operating system is running on. and it still blue screens. i called them up, and told them. now there sending me 2 more new drives with all new cables. If its not my hardrives, what do u guys think it could be??

The clicking noise is just the drive powering down upon the Blue screen, it's not a dead or dying drive.

The error is likely caused by memory or video problems.

Run memtest86+ for 24 hours, see if you get any errors - also try different driver versions for your video card. But, do the memtest thing first as it will rule out memory.

k ill run memtest all tonight, and see if it picks anything up. Yah, ive tried 3 different driver versions. its weird though, i can run 3dmark05 and 03 just fine without any problems. Why is it just games? 3dmark05 is pretty demanding.

I doubt it has to do anything with hardware.
I am inclined to think it is a patch that you need for your game.

it did it with need 4 speed with and without the patch. and i did it with bf1942 with the newest 1.6 patch. and ive tried catlyst 4.9 and 4.10 betas. but after i get the blue screen and restart, right when windows loads it says windows has recovered from a serious error, and i hit send report and it IE pops up saying it was caused by a device driver. but it couldnt figure out what driver. hmmmmm. and i am running mem test right now and its on 21 hours and 37 minutes. 0 errors so far, so i am pretty sure its not my memory now.

k, yes i have a hardware firewall built into my modem. and the blue screen appears before the game screen appears. i ended up running memtest for 34 hours. with 0 errors. hmmmm, im confused

Do you have winXP with all updates installed?

And in your display settings/troublshooting do you have a Hardware Acceleration - Full?

Btw did you add any new hardware recently?
Have you got a latest BIOS for you mobo?

i have xp pro sp2 with all available updates. and i have the latest bios for my mobo. I dont remember seeing hardware acceleration full. but i didnt look that closeley. what if it does say that though? And i have added no hardware at all recently.

I guess you have got some driver incompatibility. But I am not sure.
After you installed SP2, did they game run al'right?

yah after i installed sp2 the game ran fine , then one day i just started up need 4 speed and get this blue screen. and last time i ran it i didnt upgrade any drivers at all i can think of. when i get my new hardrives ill run it without sp2 to see if that changes anything.

saweeeet. i just checked on dells website and they have a new bios update that came out like 3 days ago. im downloading something right now that has an hour and a half left. but after that is done i will flash to the newest bios and see if that works. then ill come back and update u guys

Uhm. I am really at loss.

I would ...go to an official web page of the game and check for patches. Even if it ran OK before..it could be a problem. I would reinstall video and audio drivers. Cannot think of anything else atm.

For me the most useful tool to keep my Windows (98) :D alive has been rolling back the registry (installing an authomatically saved older copy) whenever something is behaving funny, usually after installing some new program or driver; did you install anything new just before your games stopped working?
Beware of autoupdates, tricky programs as Gator and spyware.

Funny the same thing hapenned to me after I installed SP2 on my Pro edition. My machine just restarted randomly after the damn thing was intalled.

i just got my replacement hardrives. in a few hours im going to install them format and give it a try. if that doesnt work this time im going to try it without sp2. im also thinking it could be a program called dameon, wich is a virtual drive program. so ill try it without that too, im just too lazy to put the disc in every time i play my games :D But ill post back on what happends. Hope for the best :)

Before reformat, I will try this 1st:Seeing it worked before

1-Uninstall game + plus delete it's directories on C-drive & at users if any.
>If you have Norton SW, use it to clean regisry at this stage.
2-Then disable System Restore
3-Go to msconfig, uncheck all at startup, go to services, hide all MS services, then uncheck the rest & reboot.
4-Then I will delete all the prefetch files.
5-Then go and chose No Pagefile.
6-Then I will reboot twice & login twice[To gather only necessary Prefetch files]
7-Then I will enable pagefile and let windows manage it.
8-Then reboot.
9-Now I will defrag
10-Now go msconfig, chose normal startup & reboot.
11-Now enable System restore.
12-Re-install game and never use Virtual drive again...Use CD.

This is how I keep my BLOAT in sync!
Hope it helps :D :D :D

ehehhehehhe thanxs alot, to bad i didnt see this post before i formated. i installed all the new hardrives. and i installed doom 3 with the latest patch(no virtual drive) and it seems to be working fine. i havnt tried bf1942 yet because my friend is borrowing it. but i think i fixed the problem. i doubt it was the hardrives, and it was most likely the virtual drive. ill just wait a few days with some other games and see if all runs fine. now i have 5 raptors in my house :D . but i have to return 3 to dell, or they will charge me for them :(
