I think i'm set that it's going to be one of these models because from most reviews i've read they all seem fairly reliable, and are available locally. I'd rather go for the big names than taking a gamble on things like Westinghouse which can be hit, or miss. Sooo, any suggestions? Is the cost of the high end Bravia XBR2 worth it over these lower priced models?

Sony BRAVIA XBR2 40" 1080p LCD HDTV (KDL40XBR2)
$2,799.99

Sony 40" BRAVIA V-Series LCD HDTV (KDL-40V2500)
$2199.99

Sharp AQUOS 42" 1080p LCD HDTV (LC-42D62U)
$2000.00

Samsung 40" LCD HDTV (LN-S4095D)
$1899.99

I don't know much about samsung and sharp but I know more about the sony. The V2500 is currently the model I am looking for mainly because it does support 1:1 pixel mapping at 1080P over HDMI so no more to worry about overscan and such. The difference between the V2500 and XBR2 is the overall design with a floating glass and a PC input (15 pins) and the bravia pro engine or something like that. Other than this, it is the same TV. Some people prefer the XBR2 since they believe the picture quality is better but judging from the specs, they are equals. I personnally prefer the overall "classy" look of the V2500 but it is just me.

The best thing to do in your case to help decide your purchasing decision is to head over avsforum.com. This is the most helpful forum on the net regarding home entertainment. There is an official thread for almost every TV set. I did bookmark the V2500 thread :

I have the 2nd TV and thats way overpaying. It should be like ~$1700

Hell, amazon has it for 2 grand with free shipping. Its an amazing TV though, I'd recommend it.

The xbr line is amazing but not worth the pricetag.

All 4 sets seems to have their own problems, Some Samsung/Sony's backlighting are "cloudy" and Sharp seems to have issues with vertical banding. But seriously, before spending that much money, it would be wise to do some research. Check out the owner's threads for the individual sets on avsforum.com
