Help, CPU won't OC

Hey, my CPU won't OC in windows. I set the CPU freq up in BIOS, HT multi @ 4x, RAM divider at 166 (RAM @ 3-3-3 1T manually), and reboot. BIOS says the correct speed, but in windows nothing ever changes! CPU-Z, the my computer properties tab, dxdiag, they all say 1.8Ghz no matter what (I've tried many different CPU freqs, such as 210, 225, 230, 240, and 250).

I can change the voltage however. I tried a .025V increase, and instead of saying 1.379V, CPU-Z read 1.4V, so that works. A RAM divider works, because when I put it on, my 3dMark05 score goes from 7550 to 7400. But no matter what CPU freq. it's at, the 3dmark score doesnt change! I got 7401 @ 230 and 7403 @ 250. -_-

HELP!

edit: it's not a temp problem, i checked my temp while 3dmark was going and after several minutes of 100% cpu load it went from 26C to 38C.

and "AMD Cool 'n Quiet" is disabled.
 
send it to me, i'll fix it for you. it may need some parts replaced, so if it comes back with a socket 7 motherboard and an amd k5 cpu, thats because i just used those stickers on your stuff, the stickers cover up traces and protect from FRI noise, dont worry. and the sloweness is because i'll have installed an automatic protect-o-matic program which will keep your computer always running perfectly, although it does come with a 95% performance hit, no worries ;)

oh, and i suggest NOT to open your case for at least one month after i send it back, to give me time to move and change my add....i mean to give things time to break in and start working nice...yea thats it...:cool:
 
I have the same problem. Don't worry though, just oc in bios its more effective anyway. I can't oc a lick in windows, no matter what I do. Not like I care, if its in bios I can get it up to 2850. Just learn how to oc in the bios.
 
i AM OCing in the bios. Windows just doesn't recognize the OC. The bios say it's OCed. And I'm pretty sure that it has no effect on windows (from what I've said about 3D Mark 05). I'm gonna see if downloading and installing the newest chipset drivers on NV's website help any. I'm not sure if it'll even be an update.

Come on guys, I know you people can help.
 
ok, that didnt work. Downloaded the 6.66 chipsetdrivers and installed those, no dice.

I'm gonna get a windoze overclocking utility and try that, then maybe a bios flash.
 
is your multiplier setting in teh BIOS set to "auto" because if it isn't your computer might be changing your multiplier on the fly, I don't think it should if cool n quiet is disabled but you might try actually setting the the multiplier setting from "auto" to 9x just to see what happens (the highest mult your BIOS will show is 9x because it's a 3000+)

and I know this sounds kind of dumb but are you exiting out of the BIOS using the "save and exit" option instead of "exit without saving"

this stuff is simple but sometimes it's the simple stuff we overlook
 
Yea I had already figured that might be happening.

Multi is manually at 9x and HT multi is manually at 4x.

I know that my settings are saving b/c if I reenter the BIOS (before OR after booting windows and seeing that it didn't really OC) all my settings are at the ones I left them at and the displayed "Current CPU Frequency" (not a selectable option, just shows the total speed of your computer at that time) reads 2250mhz or whatever it should be.

Does anyone know a good windows OCing tool? All the ones I found had VERY old motherboard lists. I need one with my mobo on it, or at least no need to select a motherboard to OC. It needs to be UPDATED (all of mine had nothing past NForce 2).

On that note, I'm having problems with my floppy drive. It doesn't recognize any disks and the power light is on solid. Maybe I have the cord plugged in wrong? I have the end w/ a notch in the plastic connector connecting to the mobo and the end closest to the twist and w/o a notch connected to the floppy. By notch I mean a bump (sorta) in the plastic that fits into a corresponding hole on the connecting plastic on the mobo. However, there is a similar hole on the floppy too, so I'm wondering if it should be the other way around.
 
Download Clockgen, it will overclock within windows. Google it to find it as I don't have the linky on hand atm.
 
which slots is your RAM in, I was getting weird BIOS errors when my RAM was in teh yellow slots and they went away when I put them in teh orange slots, I dont' know why but it worked

oh and one last thing, do you have the auxilary power connectors connected on the motherboard? There should be one regular molex connector and one floppy connector, before I had those plugged in 2.6 was the highest I could get and it wasn't even stable, once those were in 2.8 stable, w00t
 
its not a lanparty, there aren't those two extra connectors. It's in the first two slots. Which aren't orange or yellow, they are blue and black.
