I think all the wires are plugged in correctly, but maybe I'm missing something.
I've got a set of Creative P7800 7.1 speakers hooked into an IP35 Pro motherboard. I figure that onboard sound is really all I need. And yes, before anybody says anything, I KNOW that I did not truly need a 7.1 setup
. But this motherboard has 7.1 High Def sound, so why not?
Anyway, the front two (right and left stereo) speakers do not work. The surround speakers and subwoofer work just fine.
I've tried setting it to the direct 7.1 setting, and to the 5.1 upmix setting.
When I go to the board's HD Audio Manager and click on the various speakers to test them, I get working signals out of all of the surround speakers and subwoofer, but no sound response from the right and left stereo speakers.
What happens, then, is that I do not get any vocals out of anything. I guess those are generally recorded on the stereo tracks and not on the surround tracks.
Example: When I put in a movie, it sounds just perfect. Until somebody starts to talk. Then nothing comes out.
Now, I'll probably never actually play a movie on the computer -- that's what my TV and DVD are for. Still, however, I want these speakers to work correctly.
Practically, I cannot hear internet radio, audio on downloaded movie trailers, and I'm completely missing the "oh yes, more, YES, there there there!" on my youtube porns
So, any ideas? I would really prefer not to get a sound card, but will do so if that is the only cure. If so, I'm open to suggestions, but keeping in mind that I'm not a big gamer nor will be watching DVDs. (I'll play occasional CDs or listen to online radio, however.)
Thanks for any ideas.
Steve
