Help! Computer freezes during boot!

Hey guys, I have a question. I left my computer on last night, and when I woke up this morning, it was frozen at the end of the boot process. Now, I can't get past that point to load Windows. It always gets stuck on the part of the BOOT where it tells me all the IDE info and the IRQ's(like, right before Windows loads). Someone please help!
 
hmmm... make sure your hard drive is set to master on the ide chain and also the jumper is set to master. Next make sure it is set to boot first in the bios. if this doesn't work disconnect all of the other ide devices and try to boot. if it still doesn't work try setting the hdd jumper to chip select. It may sound dumb but it's worked MANY times for me. Ok, hope some of those help, I have a few more thoughts but I'll start you with that. good luck! ;)
 
Thanks for the quick reply Milez! I really appreciate it. I tried what you told me, and it still doesn't boot. I didn't really wanna reformat, but I will if I have to. It just bugs me that this would happen.....just outta nowhere
 
have you tried putting the hdd in another comp.? that could do it. you may also want to pull out any pci cards. they could be hanging up the boot process for some reason. It this still doesn't work try putting in your win xp disk and booting first from it. then go through the windows repair. I'll try and think of more things that could help but usually these do it... :(
 
I would try booting to a floppy or CD like Milez said. If that doesn't work, you can probably eliminate the hard drive as a possibility. Assuming that you're not getting boot error messages, this is a hardware thing and you should start reseating cards and the like.
 
Yeah, the thing is....it reads my HDD, all that, it's like it just hangs.....I've taken out all the PCI stuff(hey, even my agp), and put it back. Haven't stuck the HDD into another comp yet. I can boot to the WinXP cd too, but I can't repair it, it wants to format it.
 
Well, I just reformatted, and am re-installing Windows. Thanks for your help tho guys! Oh, and btw.....when my computer was booting and stuff(like, the last 2 or 3 times), some of the letters were missing(from text), and some of them were different colors.......(like, when it was telling me stuff of IDE channels, IRQ's, etc.)......crazy.....unless it's something like Red Box.... :eek:
