[Help] - Choosing an IPS panel.

I could literally scream right now! There are so many choices when purchasing a monitor. The manufactures make it worse with their poppycock marketing. Even a tech savvy [OCD] dude like me has a hard time choosing one after hours of research. I need an IPS monitor that is preferably under $350.00 with a good, not perfect, color gamut. It will be used for both graphics related tasks and some gaming. I plan to buy two additional screens in the future. The two I have narrowed it down to are the: Asus PA248Q and Dell U2412M. I am leaning strongly toward the Asus. Which of the two would you buy? If you already own one of them, what do you think about yours? Have another choice? Post it then explain why you chose it. Thank you for your responses!
 
OCD wont help you here buddy. They're all poison and you're gonna suffer. :)

Go to www.prad.de review section and use google translate to piece together what differs between those models. In short I believe the ASUS has a newer panel than the Dell. The new panels seems a bit faster but worse quality control. You also have the HP ZR2440W which is very similar to them both.

If all the features you want are there, I would probably go for the Dell even if the others might be slightly better. The Dell has better cost/perfrmance ratio. Especially since you want to get several in the future.
 
Both use the same 6-bit per-color crap TN panels do. While either would more accurate than them, neither still has an input of 8-bit per-color. I will continue to look for other choices.

Why do you need more than 6-bit colour? Honest question. 8 bit colour is "better", for sure, but it may not make a difference.
 
I have a NEC EA231WMi. The only thing I would like is a faster response time.

just as some people are more sensitive to pwm flicker, input lag, and ag coatings than others, the temporal dithering used by 6-bit panels can be more obvious to some people than others.

i've used my fair share of monitors with obvious dithering artifacts, so i can understand the general disdain for 6-bit panels. but then again, i've also used 6-bit monitors that had good a-frc implementations where i had to look really closely to see the temporal noise.

so, just as with the other nitpicks that people argue and disagree about, it's a personal preference.
 
what kind of screen is the asus im assuming its not glossy is it matte?


i will never own a matte monitor again, the sharpness is unbearably terrible if you ask me.



personally i LOVE my u2412m and youd like yours more cause the later revisions are even better. you should see my dads compared to mine. although they are in seperate rooms so maybe i am just trippin :p


u2412m can be got at like 50$ less then that asus too. the anti glare coding doesnt bother me in the slightest. and my revision has the worst AG coating again later revisions got it way better.
