Help choosing a card.

Looking into getting one of theses cards, EVGA GeForce 9600 GT KO and EVGA GeForce 8800GT Superclocked.

Currently using an older crt monitor that has a max resolution of 1280x1024, may get a new monitor down the line but its not high priority. I don't have any plans for overclocking and will likely keep the card for atleast a couple years.

Heat and noise are some of my main concerns.

Is price a problem ?

If it is, a 9600 GT is more than enough for that res. If not, you should be looking at either a 9800 GTX or a HD 4850, which nowadays retail for $199 or less.

If you go with the HD 4850, do consider changing the stock cooler, since it does a very poor job in cooling the card.
 
The HD 4850 looks interesting but I'd have to say it runs too hot currently for me to seriously consider getting it at this point in time.
 
theres talk of the temp and power usage going significantly down with an update... still trying to figure out if it will happen officially or not but unofficially they already have the 4850s temps way down. i would seriously consider that videocard. i just got one for $150 and if you look at benchmarks youll see this thing performs amazingly and even has headroom for overclocking

I hear you. I live in Rio de Janeiro, a very warm city, and can't really afford to have a super hot card that blows hot air straight into the tower. It's simply not an option, and since I also only play at 1280x1024, I went and bought the Zotac 9800GTX Amp! clocked at 750/2300/1890shad (higher even than the upcoming GTX+) for $206 at NewEgg.

I saw they are out of stock but will have them again in a week. They had them for all of 4 days, so I guess I wasn't the only one to be attracted to them.
