I need some help from you guys in choosing a 52" LCD.
Do not take price into consideration at all, as they are both free choices for me. Mom won them in a promotion, im just trying to figure out which one is the better choice.
It is not for computer, gaming use as well.
It is for the whole family, watching movies and television, and some nintendo wii gaming for the little brother.

Its either:

SONY BRAVIA KDL52V5100

or

SHARP AQUOS LC52D65U

Please take a quick peak and let me know which specifications look better.

I say go for the Sony. I just recently was looking at the 46" version of those and the Sharp's picture appeared blurry and out of focus to me.

Congrats. Separate and apart from the overall better specs on the Sony, and the better mfg support you'd probably get from Sony, I do not see the Sharp having 120hz & motion interpolation processing tech, whereas the Sony does have that. I'd pick the Sony no question. If you really want to do your diligence, you should ask on the avsforum.com LCD section.

I'd go with Samsung or Sony. I don't think Sharp is as good as those two brands.

I'd go with the Sony. My folks own a 46" Bravia Z series @120 HZ and it looks beautiful, particularly for movies. The 52" should be similar but just bigger.

My friend has a Samsung 52 inch. I think it's a 750... Maybe 650... I have seen a couple of the newer 6 and 7 series Samsungs and they are the best TV's I've ever seen, hands down.

I find it hard to believe that a Sharp would be blurry. Although Sharp has been going down in quality recently, so I'ld have to vote for the Sony.

Granted for that price, you can do a LOT better.

Yes it had to be between those two.
And we chose the sony :) Thank you for your help guys.

Awesome! How do you like it? Make sure to calibrate it with a copy of DVE!

Out of curiosity, any reason you were looking at the 65 and not the 77? I picked up the 77 for 1200 a few weeks ago when dell had a 24 hr sale (along with discount through Ford). Haven't really gotten a good look yet though as I was on vacation.

I went TV shopping a while back and and did personal tests on a lot of TVs, stores hated me. Most of the time Sonys and Samsungs were among my favorites. I never found a Sharp that wowed me. Toying with a TV in a store of course isn't the best way to test it, but it is all you get beyond buying it then returning it. I did toy with settings while watching a movie I was very familiar with on my home screens (Kung Fu Panda).

So my vote goes to the Sony, I am not 100% familiar with that exact models, but I would probably guess I would like the picture more than the Sharp. Also the 120hz option I enjoy, which the Sharp appears to be lacking.

Congrats on the winnings, or to your mom rather. And hopefully you guys enjoy your choice, whichever you may choose.

Sony

for all of those people suggesting other TVs, read the post, he is getting either one for free since it was a prize.
