Monday is my birthday and I will have some money to buy speakers. I know for a fact I will have 150$ so lets go on that. I know jack shit about sound and all I want to do is play games manly mmorpg and some fps. I do use ventrillo, so headsets will work just as good as speakers.


Please help me out and choose something that would be good for what I do.
 
Get a decent set of 2.1's (other board members should know some good models in that price range), or a set of decent headphones. High quality headphones typically don't come in a headset configuration, so a desktop mic or something that clips onto the headphone of the headphones would be required in that configuration.
 
The Klipsch 2.1 Promedia's are right around $150

Obey the Klipsch. Anything else is just bunk.

You could also get a nice set of headphones for that amount too.
 
If you are going to be the only one listening, get some headphones. Otherwise the Klipsch 2.1 Promedia's are very good.
 
Yes, do be afraid. I went there...four weeks later I had a pair of headphones that retail for $300, and a headphone amplifier that cost me $120ish (thought quite a nice amp and I got a nice deal on it from our local [H]ard|OCP amp master).

For those inteterested, I picked up a used, but perfect condition, set of Alessandro Music Series Two headphones (nearly identical to Grado SR-325's - they are made by Grado and marketed by Alessandro). I got a Pimeta amp from X86Dude. Expensive, but sonic bliss :D .

I'll just assume this kind of clearly inaccurate response is borne out of ignorance of the other options.

The Pro Media 2.1's are good for what they are, but the Altec MX5021's are far more balanced, and Swans sell a couple of sets in this range.

You can find some really superb headphones for around this amount of money however. My HD580's were around this price point, and amazon sells them for around $170.
 
But nothing in the 2.1 catagory can debunk the 2.1 in the robustness of the amp. Most of the amps I have seen in the multimedia area, including altec, use crappy chip style amps you would see in small bookshelf systems and RCA HT-in-a-box receivers. The Klipsch systems use a heavy duty transistor style amp, which can output allot of power and are very stable at various loads. This can let you upgrade speakers. Right now I have 2 JBL N24II speakers attached to the 2.1 amp, and they have a relitively low sensitivity, 86dB. It's amazing that any multimedia system can run these at respectable leavels of volume, but the 2.1s have enough power to move them across my desk. If you ever plan on having any money in the future you can't really go wrong getting the PM2.1.

Yes you can, quite easily.
If you have access to additional funds you should be buying a real HT setup, not daisy-chaining bookshelf speakers to an integrated multimedia amp to get four speakers playing the same stereo signal.
