HELP! Can't Access D: Drive

So a few nights ago, I was awoken at 4 AM by some really awful clicking sounds coming from my hard drive. Not wanting to deal with it then, I shut my computer down but right before it powered off, my computer made this horrifying squeaking sound. When I went to boot up the next morning, I got an error telling me that my Windows installation was corrupted. I used my XP disc to repair my installation and everything was working fine, I could access both my C: and D: drives. I even backed some stuff up to my D: drive, fearing that my C: drive was failing.

My problem is that after another reboot, I could no longer access my D: drive. This is very bad because this is where all my music and other data is held. :weep:

As you can see in this screenshot, both the C: and D: drives show up, but the D: drive fails to display free space or used space. When I try to click on it, my computer lags out and I have to manually close My Computer.



Please help me. Is there any way I can recover my data? Is it possible to copy the contents to my C: drive using DOS, and if so, can someone tell me the commands? I keep getting invalid parameter errors. Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
If your C:\ Drive is getting read errors, and it's about to fail, the Best thing to do is to replace your C:\ Drive, install Fresh OS, Drivers, and then Reconnect your Old Drives to recover your files, Copy your Files over to your D:\Drive. Failure to keep a fresh Drive Image for Restore Functions, happens to lots of people, who fail to realize how important it is to do Backups.

I recently tried to upgrade a Clients P4 Gateway,(1.6 GhzP4, 512 Megs PC2100, GeForce Ti 4200 64 Meg AGP, 20 Gig SeaGate 5400rpm HD), the Hard Drive was 90% full, and they could not understand why their Computer was running so Slowly.
I thought I could bump their Memory up to 1 Gig, add a 2d WD400BB 7200 Hardrive, Move most of their Data Files over to the New Drive, Clean their Registry of all the Orphans / broken entries, and get them back to respectable performance fairly quickly.
Actually, I'm still working on this Problem. In the meantime, I replaced their Main system, with a 3.0e Prescott, running Corsair XMS 3200 CAS2, GeForce 6600 GT, Maxtor 250Gig 16 Meg SATA Drive, and the're very happy with the increase in Performance, and it bought me enough time to repair their old one, for them to use in their Shop.

You can always buy this program and see if it can repair the disk filesystem enough to get data off. I would let it run and buy a new drive to attempt to copy the data too.
 
Somethings wrong with the power connectors on both of my maxtor hd's(*used* to be impossible to get them unplugged so I had to wiggle them alot). The one my games are on starts clicking and made some weird sounds a few times and the one I use for mp3s and backup wont come on during boot sometimes. I just unplug them and plug them back in and there good to go.


Try messing with the connections. :p
