Hello,

I am putting together a dedicated PFsense router. I am expecting a faster internet connection to be installed in my area, either 80mb/s or the FFTP 330mb/s. I wish to build a system that is able to handle the faster connection just to cover myself for any future upgrades.

The network will have the following devices connected.
Server
Media PC
Gaming PC
Laptop 1
Laptop 2

I would be very gratfull if the list of components can be checked for suitability.

What's your budget?

Are you sticking to just Scan for buying parts?

What are you using for storage?

Are you using this system just for pfSense? Do you plan on running any servers on it?

What do you expect the box to do, just firewal / nat or do you plan to install snort or squid or any of the other heavier packages?

ya those last 2 would be smaller better options and still give enough power to do most anything you want.

Really just depends on what kind of processing load you are throwing at your box, but the atoms should get you by, especially the j1900 linked earlier. I am running a company untangle box with an old p4 xeon that does a ton of junk just fine. And that is loaded with a ton of modules and a lot bulkier code than pfsense.

With the components you selected, I personally would not oc the cpu as you really want something rock solid when using it at a perimeter device.
