I have a VM Gamer's Edge with Windows XP, upon power up I was hit with the following message:

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS
The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\VMM32.VXD
Type the name of the Windows loader (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD)

repeated boots produce the same error, typing the line as stated causes the same error to appear.

a google search and look into the windows knowledge base has not been helpful as it appears that this error message generally applies to Windows 9x/ME or machines with XP installed over one of those OS's.

Can anyone help me in a recovering process? what would have caused this? I'm gonna dig up an old boot disk and poke around but am otherwise clueless on where to begin. I do not want to blindly re-install XP without knowing what's going on.

thanks in advance
