Help, BIOS doesnt detect SATA HD

Im putting together a new build and everything seems fine, except BIOS doesnt see my SATA hard drive. I have a Gigabyte DS3 Rev 3.3 and a 320GB western digital sata hard drive. Ive tried switching the connector on the MB and I dont have another computer I can test the hard drive with.Maybe I dont have everything in BIOS configured correctly.I cant proceed to install xp, please help.
 
just want to add this is my first complete build and first use of SATA. Also the hard drive appears to get a little warmer when computer is on and BIOS detects my IDE CD-ROM which leads me to believe its not an actual hardware (MB or HD) issue, rather configuration in BIOS or appropriate connection.
