Help: Audigy Causing Static??

Just recently, I started to hear really odd static coming out of Audigy, i think. When I listen closely with my Sennheiser 280pros, there is a light static when I move things in windows. What I mean by that is that if I resize a window, scroll, or something like that... it causes a light static sound. This only occurs when I do something like that. I find this very, very strange. My soundcard is an Audigy ES i believe, and i've already tried updating the drivers. Could the soundcard have gone defective? Is something else causing interference? I have not had this problem up until now.

did you recently get a new PCI device? Have you tried moving the card into a different PCI slot? -- Is the device sharing an IRQ or INT spot with any to other device(s)?

i havnt installed any new hardware. how can i check if it's sharing irq, int or w/e?

If you are running Windows XP, go to Start, Run and type in msinfo32. Then go to hardware resources, IRQs.

my audigy is on irq 17. it's shared with an Intel SMBus controller, and my onboard sound (soundmax).

what should i do, and how can i do it? thanks for the replies.

I reccomend disabling the onboard Soundmax unless you really need it. Also, look for an option called "APIC" in your bios, and turn it on. This makes every device run on its own IRQ.

APIC was already on, but it says that has something to do with power management in the bios. i disabled soundmax.

now i tried plugging my headphones into my speakers that are connected to the sound card, and im still getting the same static if i resize/scroll windows. i dont think itd be the headphones causing the problem because there isnt static if i plug it into my onboard sound, or an mp3 player. omg im sooo confused.

Try to get the Audigy onto independant resources ie no sharing. I have seen onboard sound crackle when mouse is moved, but it was a problem with the mobo, and i didn't think sound cards could crackle like that. It is due to interference from the mouse (i think), so try to move the IRQ of the PS/2 or USB resources. apart from that, try not to worry, unles it is loud static.

thanks for the help everyone, but i got it figured out.

i asked my roommate about it, he told me that the analog signal coming from my vidcard->monitor, or wiring from monitor may be causing interference with the soundcard. so i moved the sound card to my lowest slot to keep it away from the vidcard. long and behold, it worked!

thanks for the fast replies everyone!
