ok so i got all my new computer stuff in today, and everything is fine except for one problem: i can't figure out how to put the mobo in the case. the mobo is an abit nf7-s, and i read the manual and it said there are 2 different types of mounts:screws and studs. well i see the little brass things sticking out inside the case, which i assume are the "studs" they are speaking of. now, the problem is, when i align the studs, i simply don't know which screws to put on there. none of them are labeled, and there are even more studs in the bag. please help out!

oh, and if anyone can gimme info on the dampener clear thingys, that'd be appreciated!

p.s. sorry for the noob question.

do the brass risers have screw holes in them. And of coarse the screws arnt labeled, it is assumed that if you are building a pc you know what you are doing.......jk (sorry for the cheap shot). you use the screws that fit in the risers. its hard to explain what they look like but yeah those little silver ones that fit in the risers. make sure you have the cardboard spacer between the screw head and the mobo. you should be able to rearange the risers to fit in under the screw holes on your mobo. if you are not positive on how to do it, find someone who does. I would hate to see you fry your board before it gets its cherry poped.

god it sounds like we are talking about a new girlfriend or something here :p

The dampener clear things are for the extra 120mm fan mount on the HDD rack. If you're putting in the aux fan, just use those to secure those to the rack. Makes it nice and quiet, no rattling. :)

i believe the mobo tray has letters next to all the wholes..............i believe the ones labeled with an "A" are for ATX mobos so put the brass risers in those...........then the screws.......i'm using ones with a rounded top.........just test em out...........one kind has gotta fit........

mobo mounting screws comes in all shapes, but same size(pretty much). You just gotta use the one that fits.

Good Luck!!!

:D

all of the screws will fit in there except for the really fat ones and the long ones

i don't think i have any cardboard spacers! aren't there also like dampeners for the hard drives and optical drives or something or are those already installed?

i think he's talking about washers

yeah well i have these little round things on to motherboard, but another than that, i don't recall seeing any cardboard spacers in the bag..

spacers are the same thing as stand-offs

and he meant cardboard washers

yes i have those things, they came with the case in a little bag. they also were already installed on the back side of the case. like i said, the little studs stick out and i can put the mother board on. i believe screws go on with those little brass studs on top of the motherboard. so, i guess i was really just wondering which screws to use, or if i should you the (i think) extra studs that came with the case to go on top of the spacers already, or if those are just superfluous studs for certain types of mobos. thanks for replies!

okay heres the plan:

place your mobo down in the case where its supposed to go, line up the back I/O plate with where its supposed to go, etc.

take sharpie (think black marker) and in every screw hole on your mobo, stick that marker and mark the case where you need a standoff.

take out mobo, standoff (only one) in all the placed you have marks, if theres not one there already.

place mobo down, find a thicker screw and try to screw your mobo down, if the screw doesnt fit, try another ;) same goes if its too loose or whatnot, mobo screws are pretty universal, youll have a bunch.

the rubber grommets are your fan screws. use them to attach the second fan onto the opposite side of the hard drives, make sure the fan (if you bought a second) is blowing air towards the back of the case, not the front.

yeah, but i think the standoffs are already integrated onto the case. there are little brass standoffs that have already come installed in the case, and i think all i have to do is just lay the mobo down and install the screws.

I would do what Garage81 suggested but I would remove all the pre-installed standoffs. You should only have a standoff where the motherboard expects one. If one of the standoffs doesn't line up with a hole on your motherboard you could run into problems.

Good Luck.

As Garage81 and GrimWil suggested, remove existing brass standoffs from Sonata. Lay mobo on mounting plate, aligned with ATX shield on end near PSU. Mark through holes in mobo with sharpie to show which threaded holes in case should get standoffs. Remove mobo and install standoffs in marked holes. Assemble memory and HSF to mobo, then place mobo in case and secure to standoffs with round-headed fine thread screws. Front fan is only needed if hard drive temps go too high (doesn't help with case temps). Hard drive isolators (grommets) are already in HDD mounting trays. Special shoulder screws are provided for HDD grommets.

I have NF7-S in Sonata installed as above, with no cardboard or fibre washers on standoffs and have had no problems.

only time I ever used the fiber washers was on AT mobos that didn't have the ground ring [solder].....washers and plastic standoffs = pita;)
