help! abit ic7 chipset getting too hot

i was searching through the forums and seems like abit ic7's have a problem with the metal hooks popping off. i should've came here earlier because this happened to me last year. i decided it was a good idea to use some arctic silver thermal adhesive to permanently stick the heatsink/fan onto the chipset. it was good all until my fan recently died. now, temps are too high for my chipset. what're some possible solutions? i'd like to change to maybe an improved passive cooling solution for the chipset but i dont how feasible it is to remove the thermal adhesive.

edit: i did some more searching and seems like my chances of removing the heatsink are very low since AS adhesive is strong stuff. what sort of cooling setup can i use to lower the temps of my chipset?

any help would be appreciated, thanks!

can anyone help? speedfan temps are reading 66C right now, i dont think thats healthy. is there a systematic approach to optimizing airflow within the case. i havent been too good with cable management so thats what im gonna try first but a dead fan sitting on stock heatsink probably isnt going to help cool the chipset, esp. in the summer.

thanks in advance

haha, at least temps might go down for the brief moment that all the heat transfers to my fingers..

im planning on building a conroe system soon but i'd like to prolong the lifespan of this current rig as long as possible, use it as a fileserver or something.

Um, well... Pop off the fan, get a new 40mm fan and bolt/epoxy it to the heatsink lol. I'm serious, you can get some nice 38mm thick 40mm fans for like 2$ on ebay, those will do you well.

I gluegunned (use the yellow glue, the clear stuff melts off ;) ) a 50mm fan fo my NB HS on an old laptop/picture frame and it dropped my temps by 22'c.

great! i'll try it out..except are there other, less permanent ways of attaching a fan other than a glue gun? otherwise, what is the yellow glue specifically? does it melt at higher temperatures than standard glue and if so, i would need a different glue gun then?
