So I'm finally starting to make the jump between Ultra ATA and SATA. As of right now, I am running one Ultra ATA drive along with one WD Raptor, which is my boot drive.
I want to add another SATA drive, and I also need to set up my other two (or three) drives running off IDE still.
If I do this, can I set up RAID? Can someone actually just explain to me what RAID is, how it works, and why it's beneficial? Or how I would even do it?
On top of that, what kind of PSU do you imagine I would need to run 2 Ultra ATA drives, an optical drive, and two SATA drives? Would my 400W be sufficient?
And ... as well, if I do decide or try to set up RAID, do the drives all have to be identical? Because I won't be buying another Raptor, probably.
