Put most of my computer togethor. I tried to start it, it wasn't working for a while. I finally got it to power, but it didn't post anything on the screen. The fan on the CPU went on, as did the fan from the GPU. The hard drive is a Sata HD. I connected the power suppy from antec true 380 and a sata controller to my motherboard. I tried to take out the cpu but the heatsink was like glued to it. It didn't want to come off. I used some artic silver 3 to put it on, maybe i put on too much.

What could be the problem?
 
I don't know what is missing. When i plug my cdrom drive into the motherboard and power supply it won't turn on. When i just plug it into the power source it will. I pulled out the CPU and bent a few pinz. I pushed them back and put it in again. Will it still work?

This is a disaster.
 
Try cleaning off the heatsink and the CPU completely with rubbing alcohol being careful not to get it all over the place. Then use only a uncooked rice size of artic silver, perhaps a little more for an A64 but it still does not need very much at all, like a paper thin (or less) sheet just covering the core.
 
Is my cpu completely fucked?

WHat could be the problem? Motherboard? Cpu?

if the motherboard has power could it still be dead? This is pissing me off.
 
OK!!! IT posted!

I didn't fucking connect that 4 pin thing in to my motherboard. What a jackass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now i hope i didn't fuck up my CPU by slightly bending the pins. I pushed them back and they went in all the way. The cpu clicked in. It's posting at 2400mhz. Do you think it's fucked up at all?

Thats bullshit, don't rma it. You fucked up not the company. People like you increase hardware prices.
 
One processor won't make a difference to a multi million dollar company, they have like 250% price markup anyways. And don't give me that bullshit "If everyone rma'd" because he's not everyone, he's just an average person who fucked up and doesn't feel like dishing out another 270$ on a processor.

Have you checked the jumper settings for the bus and multiplier speeds?
 
...why don't all you guys lighten up a little and work on the guys problems....and leave the modding to those burdened, er, assigned to the job...:rolleyes:

Suggestions on how to defraud a vendor won't fly, either.....bent pins are usually pretty easily bent back by using the barrel of a 0.5mm mechanical pencil. Chances are, if it boots, you're fine. If the CPU ID is wrong, the first thing I'd try is clearing the CMOS and trying again.

Just a thought.....

New systems around B.B.S. labs don't get to see an OS until they pass Memtest86+ and the drive manufacturer's diagnostics; neither of which require an OS as they boot from floppys. If your OS install isn't going well, it's usually time to fall back and do some hardware diagnostics.....

It posts at right MHZ.

I get to the final step of windows xp sp2 install and it just gives me a blue screen of death. Some error in hardware or something. I don't know what's up.

What does it the BSOD say? And lighten up your memory timings, if only temporarily to see if it's the problem.

Any idea what this may be? This is scary, i hope my CPU is fine? Maybe i'll try to take it out and bend the pins back into place better. Last time i had to push it down hard to get it to click into place. Maybe it's my ram? HDD? WTF!
 
I would go into your bios and load the default settings...Also I would run Mem86 or some kind of memory test from a floppy...Usually BSOD while loading WinXP are caused by memory or power issues....
 
If you can, take a picture of the CPUs pins. Generally though, if boots and posts, your CPU is not the culprit (at stock).
 
this triggers a memory of mine... i've got an old thread to track down where a similar problem was encountered.
 
I think the problem was the RAM.

I bought Corsair dual value select pack. 512mb x 2, for a total of 1 gig of ram. I took both rams out, left one in and it booted and worked fine. I tried to put the other one in and it doesn't work at all, in either dimm slot. What do i do now?

Do i have to RMA both rams or can i just send one in so i can still run my PC in college?
