Hello! I just wanted to say hi from my new i7 920 computer.

Still have a lot of work to do, the cabling is a mess, but all the RAM is ID'ed and Windows 7 64 bit is installed! Thanks for all your advice!!!

Oh, and just warning you there will be plenty of questions to come.

I was and am so tired from staying up until the wee hours just trying to get to Windows on this, then having to work today! Things were looking so good as far as cabling, until I got to the PSU and trying to plug everything in. At that point, I was tired, and things just seemed to get out of control. I think I can tuck a lot more under the hard drive cage at the bottom, and pull more slack out into the back track of the 902 case. I will post more and update sig with specs as soon as I get caught up!

As I type this, I am running around 45 C on the CPU. I'm afraid I may not have got the stock cooler down squarely, as 2 of the screws popped down a little farther than the others, but it felt like I was going to break something pushing down on them.

Don't be afraid to put some force on the fan, as long as you don't push too hard. I also have an i7 (930) and I idle at around 40C.

Definitely run the 24pin behind the harddrives, it's hard because its on the front side of the psu when you have the fan facing up but you should be able to route it behind. Also try running that 4/8pin cpu cable UNDER the gpu between the end of the motherboard and the pci-e slot. It will run right up the left side and past the chokes/mosfets and should look a bit cleaner.

I love Dune (book not movie). I thought the original Dune was in the top 2 or 3 science fiction books I ever read. I read all 6 of the original series and liked them pretty well. I tried to read the Brian Herbert follow-ups, but I got bogged down on Machine Crusade and have never finished the Legends trilogy. I would like to at least some day finish Sandworms and Hunters so I can wrap up that original story arc.

Well, I did post a pic above. That is my rat's nest of cabling.

Temps are doing a little better, maybe the thermal paste needed a little breaking in. I am idling right around 38-40 C right now. Have yet to do a stress test, but starting to feel comfortable about the idling temps. Maybe a heatsink re-seat isn't in order until I order my Cogage True Spirit a little down the road.

Will be uploading some more pics when I get the little one to bed.

Thermal paste doesn't really need to set, atleast nothing dramatic (it setting isn't going to drop your temps any more than maybe 1C, if that). As for the temps, 38-40C idle is about what I get with my aftermarket cooler in my hot ass apartment so that seems about right. Post a pic of your cabling and we can give you advise on how to do it better.
