I've read through BOTH of the mega topics for the 226BW and the LG L226WT and they both look like great contenders. People in both topics love their choice, and rightfully so, they both seem like great monitors. I've also seen that translated chinese write up. Through the boggling Google translation I gathered that they liked the 226BW the most, but also gave high marks and an "editors choice" award to the LG. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is the 226BW an 8-bit panel?
However, there are some things that have still not been cleared up in the topic for the LG (since I last looked at it). Is it a true 8-bit TN panel? Does it have 1:1 mapping? These two effect my decision. I plan on using my PC primarily but I will also use my Xbox360 on the monitor. Even if it doesn't have 1:1 mapping I'm not too worried about. It'll still look better than my older 480i Sony TV. Perhaps someday MS will send out an update for the 360 to support 1680x1050 since that resolution is becoming more and more popular among gamers. If you go to the tech section of the Xbox forums I bet money you will see at least 5 topics of people asking for it.
The stats for both of these monitors are so close I doubt I could go wrong either way. It appears the people posting here staunchly defend their position about true 8-bit monitors looking 100% better than 6-bit with dithering. If this is actually true (and I have no reason to believe it isn't) then I'd choose the LG for that reason. I could pick up the 226BW at CC for about 20 bucks cheaper than the 226WT
So can any of you guys out there help me with my final decision?
