Ok i have a Tt Silent boost heatsink with a Tt smart case fan 2. My temps are not what im looking for, so im wondering what heatsink is best for the MSI K7N2 motherboard. note: does not motherboard mounting holes. Only the 3pin setup. Thanks

also is applying just artic silver just to the chip or should i add some around the heatsink where it makes connection?
 
SLK-900a is my recomendation choose a fan that suits you hearing/cooling needs
Arctic Silver 3 recommended spreading some on the heatsink then wiping it off with a lint free rag Arctic Silver 5 I don't think it's needed (according to Arctic Silver anyway) due to its thicker consistency.

edit: well i just bought a refurbed SLK-900a from newegg. I mean, what could be wrong with a refurbed heatsink? anyway, hopefully this will decrease my temps good. If everything works out good, im going to sell my Thermaltake Silent Boost in package. Its like 3 weeks old. Hopefully this heatsink will make the difference.
 
you might want to wash the contact area with a high grade spirit before you use it.. they have probably lapped it at newegg before sending it out but you never know if peoples fingers have been on it

if youre going to put some on the hs (it shouldnt do much harm even if a.s have stopped recommending it) make sure you rub it in properly with your finger wrapped in plastic (a piece of freezer bag is good) then wipe it with a dry cloth, that will fill in some of the cracks for better contact then put the bulk of the paste on the chip itself

slk900a is the best you can get probably, i can put 1.9v through my tbred and the difference between that and an sp97 will be very small

edit: that paste sux ass, well maybe not but its made by "arctic cooling" who make cheap silent coolers, not "arctic silver" who make the famous pastes
 
son of a biatttch, i type in artic silver in newegg. i see that i buy that. and i buy cheap from newegg. ThAtS cRaZy mAn. deffinitly a turn around in newegg. I didnt think they sold "cheap" stuff...
 
yeah I noticed that in the link also semi-deceptive me thinks still you've got yourself a great heatsink tell me how it performs comparitively to your old one (when you get it)
 
Weren't there problems with the 900A pulling sockets off? I thought that was why the 900U was released (that and Intel compatiable).
 
I like the ALX800 from Thermalright. It's cheap, Aluminum with a copper base smoothly lapped, and paired with AS5 or Ceramique and a great fan, it cools very well.
 
wasn't aware of that I recommend it because his motherboard had no mounting holes ( 900u )
If your carefull trasporting it I'd hope there'd be no issues it's 527 grams which I think is still sane I had a pos volcano 12 700+ grams on my old rig and I moved it aroud (carefully) and had no probs :p
 
Looks good at 430g its a little lighter but he's bought a refurb 900a already hope your not implying my advice was bung (for his sake)
edit: did a google for SLK-900a socket damage ( and variants on this theme) and found zip could you post a link ??
