Heatsink Question

The amount of tension on the heatsink on a P3 era processor is so low, that it will work fine. (the extra thickness will increase pressure, but not enough to matter)

Just be sure that there is not a ridge or the like that hits the heatspreader and prevents even contact of the heatsink, and you will be fine.

Thanks, little confusing on the ridge thing though.

So you mean make sure it like.. covers the entire heatspreader?

Also, would a coppermine celeron heatsink be enough to cool a tualatin celeron 1ghz, overclocked even?

Yep basically. Some heatsinks are not flat on the bottom all the way across, they have a ridge or a cut out or some other change in the shape, usually to be sure your orient the heatsink correctly with the socket. Just be sure you put the heatsink on the right way around and you will not have a problem.

As for if the heatsink will be enough, I would think so, as tualatin's run lower voltage, so they usually put out less heat.

You did make sure that your MB supports the tualatin first right?

Yes I did, I was hopen for 133-140fsb at least though, is this possible?

Possible? yes. Probable.. depends on the CPU and the Motherboard. That will be 1.3 to 1.4 GHZ, and that is a speed that some Tualatins were sold at, so I would say that if you get one from a later build date it is likely to be capable of it. As for the MB, if it officially supports 133mhz FSB, you should be good to go there too. Otherwise, it might be a streach.

You have decent RAM too? (as it will be at the FSB speed most likely)

It's generic pc133, was hopen to get 140fsb out of it though.

It's a nice P3 mobo, can do 150fsb i believe but I really doubt the ram (and maybe even the board) would take it.

This may or may not help you:

I have a pair of old 1.13/133 fsb P3 Tualatins with one running at 1.30/153fsb cas3-3-6 and the other running at 1.275/150fsb cas2-3-3-6. Never used Celerons so I can't help you there. Both Mobo are Soyo SY7VBA-133U, and each of them uses 512MB Kingston ValuRam rated at PC133/cas3. No voltage increases or special cooling, just the stock stuff & they never get hot. EVERY stick of valuram I've ever used will do at least a 15% OC, usually running cas2 below rated speed.

They probably would go a lot higher if the mobos had PCI locks (running at 38 & 37MHz now).

Thanks for the info, this should help. I'll be getting the CPU real soon, i'll let you know how the OC turns out ;)
