it's not really a cooling problem... nor a OCing related issue... but I figure you guys in here handle heatsinks more then ANYONE else... so ... here it goes.. how do I get that darn thing off there lol

Best way to handle this situation?

Whoa
How did that get on there like that?
And what did you use as TIM? (superglue?)

Light twisting or wiggling usually works to loosen the grip of thermal paste. Maybe insert some razor blades between the heatspreader and the heatsink.

I didn't do it! came right out of this old server I'm... restoring in a sense... going to replace the Al Heatsinks with shiney copper ones and pulled it right off! the other one came off no problem.

Wasn't sure if there was any way to help loosen it... I'd really hate to lose this processor!

Get a hairdryer and heat up the TIM and twist it till it comes off. Be careful it will snap right off before you expect it to. I suggest doing it over something very soft. I've had to do this before and ended up dropping it on the floor. Then I had bent pins.

mechanical pencils are perfect for fixing bent pins. ;)
