I have an A64 3800+ X2 I built for a friend who has decided to OC.. it hits 2.6G with no issues on stock cooling but the temps are in the midd to upper 60s in Prime 95. We are looking at three choices... Ninja Scythe Plus, Thermalright SI-120, and the TT Big Typhoon. Not 100% sure the Ninja will fit. Thanks for any input on this! His board is a Asus A8N-E, Antech Sonata, and Corsair LED XMS memory which is taller.

I'm the friend. We listed the SI-120 because it gives better clearance, the memory does sit up pretty high on the board.

My HTPC has an XP-120 on a A8N-E. If you would like, I can measure the clearance when I get home.

I should also mention we can pick up a Big Typhoon locally for 49.99. Does the XP-120/SI-120 cool better then the TT Big Typhoon?

I've used all three and they are all top notch. The answer might depend on the case you want to install it in and how air gets to the CPU (front, side, top). The Sonata might be too small for the Big Typhoon.

My personal feeling is that the Si-120, though good has been eclipsed by the Big Typhoon and the Ninja. The Ninja is just magic in my P180.

How much clearence do you need between the top of the fan and the case for that Big Typhoon? We are worried the fan on the Ninja will hit his memory sinks as they are fairly tall.. I guess we could mount the fan on the bottom and blow the hot air up and through the power supply? Or we can just lift the fan up when mounting it on the side to clear the ram sinks? There is a 120mm rear exhaust fan on that case we could build some duct over to it.. thoughts? Opinions? He will be overclocking this dual core.

Have you considered the Zalman cnps9500, zzf has it for $60 w/free shipping. I have that and the big typhoon, the zalman was much easier to install and cools just as well.

If your case has a side fan that blows over the Big Typhoon, you are set. Otherwise, it may be starved of air.
