alright so at the moment i have the heatsink off of the coolermaster x-dreamer coupled with the volcano 11+ fan. (bad modding story. tell ya later) and it's seemed to do pretty well.

well in august at quakecon i won a slk-700 from hardocp(i was within 3 feet of kyle's wife. yipee). and it's an all copper heatsink, but won't take 80mm fans. so that means the largest fan i can get is the TMD fan .

i don't do OCing. and i watch alot of movies but also play my fair share of heavy gaming. so i'm interested in finding a fan that would be the best mix of quietness and cooling. i would assume that a good copper heatsink would do better than the copper/aluminum heatsink i currently have to compensate for the smaller fan yes?

would the smaller CFM fan and all copper heatsink be better than the larger CFM and aluminum heatsink with the copper core?

or would i just notice a difference in noise?

juuuust wonderin.

I'll throw out my opinions, and leave it to someone else to disagree.

1. Copper can move heat better than aluminium (conduction), but aluminium will dump it to air better (convection).

2. A 70mm TMD fan, even at less CFM will move air in a more efficient way than the average 80mm axial fan.

3. If you aren't going to O/C - it probably doesn't matter all that much.

4. If it was me, I would get the TMD fan for the SLK700, but I wouldn't look for any miraculous improvements in cooling, maybe just a step up in silence at the same/similar temps...

i have a high-speed 70mm TMD fan that i can sell you. email or PM me if you are interested.

so i bring this topic back to tell you all that i got the fan and heatsink on and running.

and it's freaking awesome. temps are about the same but so very much quieter. i love it.
