heatpipe for vertical board?

I am currently using an AMD XP 2600+ (333) (stock fan), and I am going to get myself an AMD XP 3200+ next week to run 400FSB on my K7Delta mobo, memory is made for 400 already. Anyway, I was thinking to get a Thermaltake Silent Tower (http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/cl-p0025/cl-p0025silentTower.htm) with it, mainly to cut down on fan noise, and I was wondering whether heatpipes will actually work when mounted to a vertical motherboard?

Seems to me like the heatpipe would only function properly if the motherboard would be horizontal, no?

No. The 'hot end' das to be on the lowest point, otherwise the working fluid will flow to the cold end and stay there, rendering it useless.

Edit:
Thuleman, that thing will work best with a horizontal motherboard, but it will funtion with reduced efficiency when using a vertical one.
 
Powered copper is sintered to the interior of heatpipes to act as a wick. Threre's too little fluid in a heatpipe to rely on gravity.
 
I have the Aerocool 101, and it works great! Best heatsink I've had. It's way to expensive, but it has the lighted blue fan, rev 2, rather than the aluminum frame one from rev 1. Yes, it's mounted horizontally! My 2800+ is @ 192 x 12.5 for 2.4Ghz, idle @33c by MBM5, much cooler than with regular HSF combo, and hits about 50c after gaming, but cools in about 5 secs to idle.I like the size of this cooler better than the Tt model, less strain on the socket. In the reviews I've seen they perform very closely, and are priced similarly. Good luck with yours!
