About how far from the fins of a heatercore be in order to eliminate the dead zone?

I'm also thinking of just getting pre done stuff from 2Fresh.

It doesnt take much, it is not as important as you think. 1/2" Is plenty, I have about 1.25" right now, but soon the fans will be inside the shroud so it will probably be much less than that. I probably wont see a temp difference.

I just installed a new shroud and went from 1 inch to a inch and a half. My load temp only dropped by about 1c but it did cut way down on the fan noise............. :D

Im sitting at exactly 2". No dead zone here. But mines all external so the extra height doesnt impact case interior space.

lol I'm such a cheapass I'll be going without a shroud for a few weeks. Hopefully the damn thing won't blow up lol.

Take a look at the cardboard and ductape shrouds people make and use. it actually works. If your too much of a cheapass to spring for double corrugated as opposed to single then you might have problems

Sorry to interrupt this thread, but where can you buy good dual120 or even triple120 shrouds?

1/4 of an inch. then you dont have a big bulgy system, but dont have the risks of leakage.

Sorry for not responding back. I just read what I wrote and realized I shouldn't type on not enough sleep.

Thanks, for the tips. I think because of my n00biness I'll get one from 2fresh. I've heard a lot of great things about them. For my first WC rig I want as few complications as I can get.

You can get a sheet of 26 gauge sheet steel from Home Depot for around 4 buck. If you got a vise, a few c clamps and 2 good boards 2 foot long, you can bend it. I did this and it worked great.

The way the shroud is mounted, with the wing nuts and washers, I can actually move it in and out over an inch to see how it effects temps. Right now it is set at about 1.25 inches. A few pop rivets, some paint, and some open cell foam to seal it all up. About 6 bucks I think.

A thermal engineer friend of mine at Delphi todl me that the distance between the fan and the radiator core should be equal to the diamiter of the fan hub for optimal performance, but not less than 1 inch on a 120mm fan.
