hi
I have a AMD 2400+ XP......I just built the system and the CPU is running at 50C.....is it safe to install XP without damaging the chip???

wont damage the chip.. but excessive heat for a long time will shorten its life... most people dont worry untill 60 C tho... get some arctic silver and a thermalright cooler if your worried

50C is a fine temp tho as long as its stable, just dont overclock untill you get a better cooler

by spec athlon-xps can run up to somthing like 80C but most are unstable at lower temps then that

I have not OCed it at all.......if i install XP pro will it be ok.....or should i just get the swiftech heatsink????.....i dont know why it is so hot....unless it it the $7 heatsink i have  .....

Ya that probably has SOMETHING to do with it. But as all have said it will be OK for installing the OS and start work. If and when you want to overclock then get a better heat sink and fan. Till then, learn and gain experience with what you've got. :)
