hi
I have a AMD 2400+ XP......I just built the system and the CPU is running at 50C.....is it safe to install XP without damaging the chip???

DREW

i'd definately say you want it cooler. is it running at 50c with no os and no load?

yes.....no OC and no load.....just in the BIOS with no OS installed
the chip is 266 FSB but my MOBO is set to 200 FSB, and the X is on default.....will the FSB being lower cause it to heat up??????
I have a kingwin $8 heat sink so i am prob. going to get a swiftech soon.....

DREW

you should get a swiftech; that's a good move.

you also should have posted in the Overclocking & Cooling Forum. that would be a good move too, /me winks at mod

i, personally, accept any temp below 55 degrees C, but that's any LOAD temp...that's really hot for idle...try running it w/ the case window off; or perhaps your BIOS is just mis-reporting temps...try installing Windows and getting MBM5 (Motherboard Monitor Five)...

gl/hf :)
