Heat-sink question

I agree, but I do want some opinions on it. Its looks like a good design...
 
The weight of the unit is but 10 grams more than one of the Thermalrights...but the Thermalright is board mounted...

From the product description, it looks as if this is thing has a heatpipe in the core, like a totally vertical version of the heatpipe cooler on one of those Shuttle boxes.

Viperlair seems to like it, and I imagine it would perform quite well, especially if the base were to be lapped, and it was kept in a vertical orientation during operation.
 
Erm... its gonna be mounted in a case.

I really don't plan on having that on its side.
 
...and I'd never get a tornado.

Looks like a guaranteed core crush for an AMD setup.

yeah, if you want the most obnoxious rig ever, and enjoy having constant complaints from the upstairs neighbohrs. (yes, it is that loud, thats a true story of how i ridded myself of the devil fan.)

The process by which one improves the surface finish (the flatness) of a HSF or waterblock. This typically involves long periods of light sanding, on a smooth surface, using progressively finer grit sandpaper.

If it's done right, the base of the HSF or waterblock reflects like a mirror.
 
So could I "lap" the one that I was thinking about? Or should I just go with a different heat-sink?

i have it for my 2500 and its the best heatsink ive seen. Throw two smartfans on it and you'll get better temps then any air cooled system ive seen.

if you can find my thread about this heatsink it tells all about it.

I don't know. From the pictures, it looks as if there may be some hardware that might get in the way during lapping.

Personally, I'd consider using one of the heatpipe-enhanced Thermalright HSFs. They would be easier to lap. And their mounting system seems a lot more secure.
