I have a Geforce 6800 GTO.

How hot is hot??

I mean the slowdown limit seems to be at 135c. The card gets in the 90's easily if I overclock, is a peak temperature of 95c too much??

1 more question. Is it better to overclock the memory or the Core?. My Core seems to get up to 440 and my memory to 1100MHz, I find that a sweet spot is 400X1000 but would it be better to set 375X1050? or 350X1100? what do you guys think?

I was thinking that could help in cooling the system while providing the same kind of performance but I could maybe fry the memory.

Thanks a lot.

Mine idles at 58c and while under a load it gets to 72c maybe a little higher but no more than a low 70. 135c sounds ridiculously hot

I meant Celsius.

Even at stock speeds the GTO under heavy load gets up to 85c easily, and not just mine, it seems all of them run pretty hot. Did you monitor your temperature while gaming?? If you checked it afterwards then it's no good. It drops 10 degrees in 5 seconds after playing.

I just checked with riva tuners monitoring and it did actually get up to 80, but that is where it stayed for about 10 more minutes. I was trying to see if I was falling victim to throttling :p

Yeah that sounds more like it. It depends on the game obviously. Far Cry gives 'em a hard beating...

This cards just seem to run fucking hot for some reason...

What settings do you have? is you card overclocked? Softmodded?

Let me know

I was playing farcry @ 1600x1200 HDR enabled, 8xaf, everything on very high. Quality settings in the driver control panel. My card is just overclocked via the clock frequency tab, the leadtek heatsink does a pretty good job, my room is freezing cold though.(only 78F at the time)

After playing some source too it hit 81 here and there.

Yeah if your room is cold then you could get lower temps. Have you got the 16 pipelines enabled?? or just 12. I have 12 and the vertex shader enabled. What overclocking have you got??

You say you play at 1600?? Man what kind of framerates are you getting?, I can only play FarCry at 1280X1024. I don't think it would be playable in outdoor areas at 1600 Res.

And what is that Leadtek Fansink?? Did you change the stock one??
