I've finally gotten around to overclocking my AMD 2500+ Barton to 2.2Ghz( the non-mobile, sadly) and have been wondering about what temps I should consider as "ok." Right now, I have the Thermaltake Aquarius II watercooling system cooling my Barton. I have overclocked the FSB to 200, and left the multiplier at the default 11x. The Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 motherboard that I have apparently takes the processor temps on die. At idle, I am running at about 48C and under load I can hit temps of 58C. These seem really high too me. I checked around and found out that the max temp that the 2500+Barton can handle is 85C. The system is Prime 95 stable, however, I am just wondering if these temps are normal on die temps. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
P.S. Below is a screen shot of my current CPU setup from cpu-z

That does sound a bit high. I idle @ 45-ish with air cooling and a 1.8 vcore.

What were your temps before you OCed it? Those are pretty high, but if it's stable, who cares. You may want to recheck the security of your block.

haha, no smoke...before I was running about 45C. I've tried tightening down the water block a little more, but if I tighten it anymore my motherboard beeps at me, and the comp won't boot. So I'm figuring I shouldn't tighten it anymore.

remember how AS5 can become condictive under high pressures, and in very thin layers? There you have it.

About the w/c

If your CPU was overclocked too when it was on air, you either have a very shitty W/c setup, or you screwed up when mounting it. Any bubbles left in the Waterblock?

i guess I'll try reapplying my as3, and see if that helps out. I never overclocked when it was air cooled, because well, this box has never been air cooled. The WC system is weak though, so perhaps I should look into upgrading that as well.

That's what you get for buying the Aquarius II kit. Maybe you can list it on ebay, get some of your money back out of it, and pick up some decent aircooling? :)

I had a Thermalright SLK-900U, but when I had trouble with my Abit-NF7-s board, I got the Gigabyte, and in the time span, AMD dropped the 4 hole mounting requirement. So, it seemed like a good idea to go ahead and just pay the extra 50 bucks or so inorder to get the watercooling. Oh well, hopefully this summer I'll be able to get a better WC system. Any suggestions?
