Heat Problem

Ok I just bought a new mobo for my intel p4 3.2 and every time I try to start up its getting to temperatures of 190F the heat sink and fan is on right but I dont know what to do

What kind of ventilation does your case have? My 3.2 Pressie ran hot as hell untill I got a better flowing case. I even had a Zalman on the chip cooling it and it ran hot until the new tower......

not a case problem the processor shouldn't jump from 97F to 180 in a matter of 20 seconds.

Have you touched the heatsink to verify that the temperature is being reported correctly?

Also, that's a pretty slow A64 in your sig. You might want to RMA it.

that sig is old the current processor is p4 3.2HT but yeah i touched it kinda warm but I know its a heat problem because it keeps shutting off and freezing up and I have the bios and a sepearte compenent telling me the heat.

You sig says 2.4mhz, which is slower than most desktop systems since the mid 80's.

Are you sure the heatsink is making good contact with the cpu? Bolted down nice and secure?

It must not be making good contact if the cpu is super hot and the heatsink is just warm.

It could just be that your thermal sensors on the motherboard are malfunctioning. You might want to verify that the heatsink isn't really that hot, and then do a BIOS update or something. Hopefully that will correct your problem.

Are you absolutely 100% sure the heatsink is touching the cpu correctly? Because it's RMA time for the processor if it isnt (and of course if you arent overclocking.)

Where and when exactly did you get the processor? If it's a retail box, you would contact Intel. If it's an OEM, then good luck, heh
