Can heat pipes go bad?

I have a 51g and cpu get up to 75c. I have tried reseating and adding more thermal compound but does not seem to help.
 
will you delete this and post it in the cooling forums...it isn't SFF related.
 
Steeeve's right - it's not really the forum for this. If you posted this in "Displays" because you happen to use a monitor too, would that make any sense?

Only way it could go bad is if it cracked, and that's pretty impossible unless your heatpipes were manhandled. It's possible it was bad from the factory, though.

Maybe you are adding too much thermal compound... All you need is a drop.

If thats the case, jump on the ones asking about DVD drives. IF its SFF, this IS the spot for it. How many people outside of this section deal with Shuttle heatpipes? :confused:
 
I know I've posted here about my shuttle's I.C.E. ( heatpipe ) cooler in the past. I had needed a clip for mine and got a few replies. I just thought what better place to post than this SFF thread....EZ
 
I wanted to see if any one else had problems with there heat pipes in shuttles. I did not see any cracks. It mostly sits on my desk. I dont think it was man handle.

Tell us next time that you are using a shuttle. This topic is fine for this forum if you are inquiring about shuttle heatpipe problems.

He said he has a 51G in the OP. He must have assumed you knew something about shuttles.
 
If heatpipe losse Vacum it will just conduct heat as any other copper pipe. Mostly You can see water leak stain if it leaks. Vacum and water leak on heatpipe will affect shuttle type heatsinks a lot because only thermal conduction between CPU block and "radiator" are heatpipes hence without them working proper You have huge preformancedrop.


Like on Nvidia 6800 cards memory cooling heat pipe is just a gimmick it's bloody open on both endes. Why!!????
