How hot is the air that blows out of the 4870? My 2900XT blows like a hair dryer. Makes it so damn hot in my room. Is the 4870 that hot or no?

If you are talking about the single-core 512mb HD4870 (which I will assume that you are, since you did not specify), the idle temp is at around 65c and the load temp is listed at 84c. Source

the idle temp of mine is around 72c in a well ventilated case. when i increase the fan to 45%, the temp goes down to 46c, but the hot air being blown out is the same temp as before, only there is more of it.

I never had a 2900XT so I can't really compare, but my 4870 heats up my room quite a bit.

unless you live in your computer case, i cant imagine how a little fan can heat up "your room".

Anyway, I have used 4870 and a GTX260, 4870 is not any hotter as some people claim, but the fan is louder, i cant hear the 260 at 50% fan, but the 4870 at 40% is starting to scream.

The 4870 has a TDP of 160W, while the 2900XT was something like 225W (if I remember correctly), so the 4870 should put out much less heat.

My GPU fan heats up my room as well, sometimes makes it unbearable.
