Hey all,
I'm using a generic headset I got for about <20$ a few years ago. The leather or leather-sort-of-fabric on the ear cushions have come off and my ears are getting quite sore after an hour or so of use.
Looking into getting a new headset and planning to spend on one that will last.
I'm looking for something that's not too pricey, provides good comfort, durable, and gives clear sound quality. While I don't use a mic normally, it would be good for the situations I would need one.
Primary use will be gaming and some normal use/stream-watching etc.
I've seen a lot of 5.1/7.1 "surround" headsets and I'm not sure what this is about. Do these really provide any sort of advantage in terms of sound quality or benefit in gaming?
Should I consider a USB headset or is there no difference between that and one that uses the standard 3.5mm connections?
Initial list of suspects:
1. SteelSeries 3H - $55
2. Logitech G330 - $46
3. Razer Orca/Electra - $65 (I'll only consider due to features/quality. I personally don't like how these try to stand out too much)
4. SteelSeries Siberia - $73
5. TT Shock - $43
6. TT Shock Spin - $52
+Any others in the price range that I may have overlooked and are available here.
Also, I am an audio noob and while I do appreciate clear sound, I have no idea on the technicalities and what ever else I should be looking for in these things.
PS Audio out is with the Realtek ALC889 onboard the Gigabyte H67.
