My Razer Barracuda HP-1 head just recently started to fall apart on one of the ear cups. I have had these for about 1 1/2-2 years and they have been really good otherwise. I kind of want to avoid getting these again, I was think about going with some Steelseries Siberia or possibly Steelsound 5h v2. I need some suggestions for about $80 budget and some recommendations on something comparable to the my razer's in sound that is. I do have a Creative X-fi xtremeMusic sound card if that is of any concern. Thanks for any help.

JVC HARX-700 + Zalman clip-on

Not comparable to the Razer though. Should be much better.

I've heard great things about the rx700, but seen some really great reviews for the 5h v2. Trying to decide what to get here too

I bit the bullet and just bought the JVC HA-RX700. I read the first 13 pages of that one 30 page thread and just said to ##@@ with it and bought it. I really liked all the comments about it and at head-fi as well. Should get mine next week hopefully.

Yeah I just recently almost bit the bullet on the HA RX900's, will probably do so on a set of 700's or 900s today, hoping after break-in they're as good as many claim! I plan on modding them down the road, one is removing the felt layer and adding dynamat, the other is possible adding a 3.5mm jack so I can use the boom mic from my TB HPA2's my fiance has taken over. That mic mod could be pretty cool if done cleanly, pretty much make my own headset, I'll just have to see how things look when I get the headphones, getting the zalman mic just in case.

Another question, what do you guys do with in-line volume control? Coming off of years and many brands of gaming headsets I've grown accustomed to leaving my software volumes at a set level and use the in-line volume mostly...any good suggestions there?

I have these on a head phone amp/dac setup and highly recommend them. The only caviat is that they are BIG in the sense that if you have a smaller head they will literally fall off.

nevre buy steelseries they are the biggest POS i have every used. i had two pairs go on me after 1 week of normal usage

Yeah ima be getting a Little Dot I+ amp to go along with my ad700s, see how much they could go.

great cans.
they sound they could be worth 2x more.

I've got a set of JVC HA-RX700's on the way, I'll power em' with my X-Fi extreme music at first, see how they do against my TB HPA2's...I'm gonna do a mod to use a removable mic boom like my HPA2's, can be found here: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/dt...can-work-other-headphones-312405/#post4027549
For about 7.50 shipped I got a boom mic and 2x1.5M (4.92ft) extension cables. It might not be as clean as the integrated headset, but I'm pretty excited to get it all fired up.

I was thinking of amping them as I'd like to have some sort of in-line volume control, just used to it with headsets...I was thinking the FiiO E5 as my first one, maybe stepping up to Gary's PA2V2 also. Any suggestions there? Only headphone amp I've used is the one that came with the HPA2, it takes that headset to very loud levels with pretty good clarity till about 85% volume, I rarely go over 50-60% if that...depends on the source.

a fiio or garys amp are no stronger than your x-fi. i have had both. and stay away from in line volume controls, they degrade the sound quality
if you do put an amp in your setup, be sure to set your x-fi main and wave volumes at 50%. theis is to prevent bass clipping from software volume overdrive. i keep my wave at 60% and main volume at 40%. i use a little dot 3 amp

I have a set of black siberias, i bought them because they were 80% off normal price. I have had zero issues with them, im not worried about breaking them as they sit on my desk all day. They are not the greatest cans in the world, but they ARE great for gaming and a lot better than the 5Hv2's for music. id recommend them as a budget "gaming" headset

Good to know. No sense in going that route then. If I do get an amp, I don't want it to make things worse, nor do I want to spend up to 60 bucks on an amp that won't make a difference and just pretty much add volume control. Still kind of a bummer on that part, but I think I'll get used to my KB volume controls. That Little Dot 3 looks like a little overkill for me...but do you have any recommendations that are somewhat affordable if I do decide to go for an amp down the road?

the little dot 1 is a nice amp for its price. wont drive 600 ohm cans but pretty much everything else. the little dot 2 and 3 are stronger but get hot as hell. so hot i often use my xenos amp instead because of small kids.
also consider a creek obh-11. i had one that served me well for a long time

In the future, I will be upgrading my headphones to something else but in the meantime I will try these HA-RX700 with no amp. I will mostly be gaming, what are some general settings I should be using while gaming on the creative control panel as well as some setting suggestions for when I movies. As I have told ashmedai, I have my computer hooked up surround sound receiver Sony STR-DG510 5.1 AV Receiver(I know it is not great by any means) that I watch movies and listen to music as well. Any setting suggestions for my card would be appreciated.
