i purchased a logitech usb headset and microphone. i get no sound from my speakers when the headset is plugged in. how do i disable it to hear out of the speakers?
 
unplug the headset and restart the program.

Alternatively, leave the headset plugged in, right click on the speaker icon in the system tray and pick adjust audio properties.

On one of the tabs(sound, playback? something like that), you can pick the default device for playback and recording. change that to your other device and you should get sound out of the speakers. You will probably need to restart any current app to get them to use it.

In some programs like winamp you can pick which device to use for sound output, and can control it that way. To get music from winamp thru speakers while shooting people in counterstrike through the headphones.

I also just got the premium usb 300 headset from logitech. What do you think of it? To me the sound quality seems poor, and it seems to use a lot more cpu time than my sound card (drops more frames in counter strike). of course i have a lowly p3-933 which probably exacerbates the problem.

(this all refers to windows xp pro).
 
i'll try your suggestion. i'll let you know how i make out.


i like the headset. i'm not sure if i am taking a hit. the sound quality could be better but it's fine for gaming.
