Headset Problem -- Need help

I have a Creative Xi-Fi Xtreme Gamer and a Plantronics headset. I'm using Vista 64. The problem I am having is that I can hear myself on my mic through my headset. Even when I am in Teamspeak and set it to push to talk in TS, I can still hear myself.

I go to sounds and it's registering my normal talking, background noise, etc -- even though I don't mean it to.

Is there a way to do push to talk with a headset universally?

Go to volume mixer --> recording devices --> microphone --> properties --> custom tab --> uncheck "monitoring";

Does that fix it?

I went to the Creative Control Panel and muted the microphone on the mixer. Problem solved.
