Well first off I want a headset mic to plug right into my sb live card. Obviously I've found a lot of them, however, I want one WITHOUT speakers. I plan on using my desktop speakers but want a mic thats versatile to keep up with my constantly fluctuating head movements. I figure a desktop mic just wont due (I have one right now and it blows) so I'm guessing one to go on my head would be sweet.

I know I've seen them before without speakers that would wrap around the back of your head and have a mic pop out in front of your mouth. But only on like professional PA systems and they cost like $300. Voice communication in gaming is getting to big to ignore I need some advice.
 
If your looking for a cheap mic I doubt you will find any thing that doesn't have LOTS of fead back from your speakers. Just get a headset & mic.
 
How about a shirt-clip type mic? I don't know how they perform for voice apps on computer, but they seem to do well enough on cell phone headsets.
 
A better quality desktop mic could probably handle the job far better than your current mic (quality, as always, matters).

However, the problem with using speakers with a mic for voice comms is that the mic will often pick up sounds from your speakers, which is really annoying for other people listening and makes it harder to communicate. Not to mention it wastes bandwidth.

Actually this is NOT true. Most newer even ultra cheap Headset/mic combos, the mic is actually two mics using the feedback from the second external facing mic to cancel with the primary (face facing mic). This is a very simple easy noise cancelling circuit to build.

Now to find a headset mic without the speaker I do not know. However why not just get one with speakers but wrap it around your neck and do not plug in the speaker part. This is what I do, works good, NO feedback as other might think.

Not ideal, would be better to have a headstrap that is more designed for this, but it works. Let me know if you find one.
