ok so i know it isnt exactly twice the case but i think it will be when im done

I bought a cosmos 1k after looking at different cases at newegg, i thought the cooling would be substantially better but i was dupped, so in preperation for putitng several radiators and water blocks all over my motherboard and processor i decided to put some case fans in the side till i could afford all the parts for my Water cooling set up.

i decided to set the spacing on the fan's screw holes so that i could use Swiftech QP radiators, i can only fit a 1x2 in width wise so i went with a 2 sets of 2 fans that will turn into two 1x2 radiators

i marked it all out on a piec of optix polycarbonate i bought at home depot

imgp0353.jpg

i then did all of my layout using an outline of the side panel for reference of were everything was going

imgp0356.jpg

i then took a drill and drilled all of the screw holes and

before i layed it out i covered the sheet in masking tape though

imgp0352.jpg

after i covered it so i could use pencil to lay out i did a full layout of the radiators screw holes for attaching the fans

imgp0357.jpg

imgp0356.jpg

after i marked everything up i decided to drill the centers of were the fans were going to go and the screw holes

IMGP0362.jpg

after this i clamped the sheet to the side panel of the case i then used a drill to punch the small holes thru the ones in the plastic all the way through the aluminum side panel

pictures didnt really turn out the well so we can skip em

after that i used the smaller holes to match were the bigger ones were to go, i then used a hole cutter in my drill press to cut out the fan holes (except for one annoying hole that i had to use the hole cutter in a battery powered drill to reach)

after this i drilled the screw holes out larger to fit the large screws to hold them, since i couldnt reach all the screw holes with the drill press i used a battery screwdriver to drill the middle 6 screwholes with the fans screwed on with the holes i had been able to reach screwed already, just to make sure the position was correct

IMGP0370.jpg

i got all the fans to check alignment but still needed to smooth the edges on the holes so i took them back off and sanded them down using 220grit sandpaper, with the holes cleaned up i put the fans back on and mounted the "filters" i put them on the back so i could keep a semi industrial feel to the side of the case.

IMGP0378.jpg

i then bundled the wires on the fans so they would be tight to the side panel so they wouldnt get crimped while closing the case

i then cut the sound deadening to fit around the fans and re installed it

i then reinstalled the side panel and plugged it in and here are the final pix of PHASE 1

if you have any suggestions for the water cooling part of this feel free to comment

thanks hope you enjoy the pix will have more soon

edit: thankyou Arcygenical for the info on buying fans other help with picking out parts

I have nothing to say other than the obvious. A damn good job through and through.

Your filters are technically on the wrong side since your fans will trap dust.

well i cut the vent holes a little larger to let the fans breath and then found out that the filters were too small and would show the edges if i put them on the front, so them being on the back is temporary till i can find a thin wire mesh to make my own grill/filter for it

I think it looks cool not having the filters on the outside, it complements the Cosmos' already futuristic looks. Especially with those small screw heads... I'm jealous :)

Although the alternative to this project would have been returning the cosmos 1000 and buying a cosmos s with the big side turbine thing... but I guess some of us are just 'dooers' :D

So you turned a Cosmos into a Stacker Evo. I've always wondered if hole cutters can be recommended for use on a hand drill.

anybody else notice the mess.....wasabi peas LOL!

those are good though, i got some wasabi ritz crackers FTW!

i did use a cordless drill to cut the bottom right fan since the press would not reach,

So i finally got the lead out and did some more on my case, i decided that i am going to pain the aluminum side panels, the handels and the silver plastic on the case. I chose VIctory red for those parts but also decided that i should paint the inside aswell. so i stripped it apart and decided to work on the cable management aswell.

i also cut a hole in the top to prep for a Danger Den Delrin Fillport

i then primed it and painted it ACE brand Flat Black from a spray can.

i did put a little scratch in the paint right above the ram slot on the motherboard....but i think i can paint it with a little brush

sadly i havent been able to get all my Water cooling parts yet, i did get some parts from maXXImus in the forsale forum here though.

critiques are VERY welcom

The black adds some class to that case. It's look great man.

If you keep the fans mounted on the inside get some of that. I will smooth out the rough edges and add a bit of look to it.

One thing that is always wanted to do with fans on a my door, is put a low profile hinge on the door. I have been back and forth with the idea tho.(I have a lina li pc61b)
