I just moved into a new apartment and i cant use my klipsch 5.1's at like 3AM playing doom3....

Can you hear where things are coming from just as good using headphones? Hopefully not having to spend over $75 to get there?

Im not trying to be a headphone audiophile here, i just want sound that has a little bass to it and will let me know if something is behind, to the side or infront of me.

I have the SB audigy 2 if that matters

I just got the HD212 Pro's and am loving them. Yes positional sounds are great (actually better then with speakers, just not as pronounced). The only problem is that when there are LOTS of sounds (like in COD level where your in a truck and driving away from a german damn with about 20+ guns going off at once) it can all get muddled together, but still good placement for each muddle ( :) ). Bass is fantastic too, good for games. $50 online or $60 at a circuit city.

is their low end professional line (such as the 280) better than the non pro (just HD) mid range of their line?

they are about the same price is the only reason im wondering... im looking to use it strictly for games

?Sorry not understanding the question. The HD280's are better then the 212's, yes, however cost about $50 more. I dont beleive either model has a standard "non pro" variant.

Anyway, its worth noting in Doom 3 you will not get "surround sound", only stereo sound positioned between left and right. You wont get behind and infront. This is because the game's sound is done purely in software and headphones require it to be outputted different by the soundcard for the positional audio (i believe thats the reason anyway). All other games (COD, FarCry etc.) work perfectly.
