I just ordered a pair of these and hope that they are as good as they say. I have a nice 4.1 system in my computer room, but if I crank it up the wife gets kinda pissy :eek: I'm hoping that the bass response is good, Bose does some great things with very small equipment, I'm hoping these headphones are no exception. Does anyone have experience with 'em?
 
Another victim of Bose's marketing, there good phones but you could have picked up a better pair of sennheisers for less money.

Yay for overpriced micro speakers and craptastic headphones. Dude, you should have checked the computer audio forum. That or checked headfi.com

For the money you spent you could have gotten a helluva better pair of cans.

That said, Bose's really does some great marketing, I mean prior to me getting into computers, I thought bose was the pinnacle of audio. 90% of my friends also think that bose is awesome, I had to convince my friend not to buy triports, he ended up getting a nice pair of grados and says they sound much better than the shitty bose phones.
 
The bose headphones are not that bad, but I would of got a great set of sennheisers for a lot less.....but then again I have some bose cube speakers/sub in my living room...
 
Actually they are free, they were in a gift catalog at work... so I guess I will not look a gift pair of headphones in the proverbial mouth. They have to be better than my logitechs.
 
I use Sony MDR-V600 for headphone gaming. There supposed to be for DJ's laboring over a bunch of mixing boards but, they do the job for me.
 
i have sennheiser pc150's, picked them up on sale for $35 on amazon.com i like them a lot. i also have senn wireless ones i got for $80 ( RJ-40's or something like that) and they sound amazing other than the minor static i get from the wireless. i'll be getting senn px200's to use with my PSP when i get that.

They are the BEST headphones I have ever heard and you will not be disappointed. Again these headphones are just amazing. Oh and the bass response is awesome as well. Use them for gaming and DVD watching. It simulates sourrond sound better than the 5.1 headphones IMO.
 
Despite what people say, Bose speakers are good, they are just overpriced.

Yeah it´s always fun with people bashing headphones they have no experience with. Me I don´t have any experience either with Bose so won´t tell you what to do ;).

As for headphones unless you are an audiophile I wouldn´t pay more than 50$ really. I have my Kinyo 5.1 and got some Koss Porta PRO and Philips 890 to see if they would be better for music or ev gaming where surround is not as important.

I did find that the Koss was marginally better for music and the Philips that cost like 100$ was about equal as my 5.1 headphones with a bit better low bass (goes down to 5 where my 5.1 which also got good bass goes to 20).

Anyway the 5.1 headphones was the cheapest and you would have to listen very very hard to find the other beating it.

So unless you are un audiophile and have a really good headphone amp go cheap. Now the 5.1 headphones comes with it´s own amplifier but since it was still the cheapest of the three anyway...

But for free I am sure you will be 150 % satisfied.
 
i currently have sennheiser pc155 and i love them. some of my buddies also have that headset and have not had any complaints from them. dsp's are also a good option.
 
How is Arkanian "teh win"? Just because he said they were good? I have never heard them, I bought the audiotechnica a900's, but you need to go take a look at headfi.com. You can get way better headphones for the money. Some sennheiser hd580's for 150 or audiotechnica a500's for 110 would be quite bit better. But if you are getting them free I guess it doesnt really matter.

NO, DSP's SUCK, DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS FROM PLANTRONICS.

I've had a pair of audio .90's and a pair of dsp's break on me, both in the same way, on different computers doing different things, my friends dsp's also broke in the exact same way ( left earphone going out ) Plantronics make's bad products, do not buy from them /end rand
 
Bose is crap. It really is. Not just overpriced.

I'd sell em on Ebay. For 150 you could get a nice pair of high impedence Grados that sound great with a sound card unlike sennheiser that needs an amp.
 
I own DSP 400s and DSP 500s and they are great. had the 500s for going on a year and no problems. Great gaming headphones.

they arent the best, but they arent bad. my friend's headset lasted for a year until it severed its own wire that was connected to the headphone. poorly built in that aspect. i would personally go with sennheiser.
 
If you are going for quality for lowest cost...try some Aiwa's

Great response for the cost on most all models!
 
Plantronics are okay definiatly. Though except dying mic problem which I suffered on my A90 so can´t really recommend them for that reason. Otherwise the mic is sensational when working ;)

Sometimes it´s not good visit audiophile forum. It´s easy there will be a common choice that everyone has to have but are not necessarily the best.

Arkanian is the win because he was about the only one with personal experience it seemed which could give a relatively uncoloured reply.

blackviper as for the Zalmans there is better 5.1 headphones out there. Zalmans has probably the best surround but sound quality is lacking. Medusa are supposed to be good though expensive. I have the Kinyo 5.1 as mentioned and like them. Really good enough to enjoy music for as well though I hardly never listen to music most watching DVD and playing games with them. Though they don´t beat my Digitheatre Platinum for movies that is for sure. Am getting amazed with these 400$ speakers every time how much they can make my room shake. It´s only 25 m2 though so not much air to fill :D
 
For "cheap" headphones, I'd recommend what many, many others have: Either Grado SR60's or Sennheiser HD497's. Either can be found in the $60 - $70 range. And both are very good. I can't really recommend you anything more expensive than that since I don't have any direct experience. I've heard the Triports, though, and I have to say, I like my Grados better.

I used to sell high end headphones... you will be unable to find a better headphone for comfort... the bose triports are excellent for lower spl and spacilzation.... THEY ARE NOT LOUD... if your looking to go deaf or have them shake off your head with bass return them. But they are so light youll almost forget thier on and they are extremely excellent in identifying were sound is coming from.... This is used with audigy 2 ZS EAX3 24/96.... My sonys on the other hand are still comfortable and are better for loud or extreme bass but for true low level gaming sound the bose triports are very light and comfortable just not to bassy and not to loud.

Also very delicate....
 
I have the Plantronic's DSP 400. I bought them because they are a USB headset. They sound better than I would have though. Maybe not the best but they are good enough for me. Oh, btw, I usually only have voice coming through them, not the game sound. I use real speakers for that.

There have been several threads on this board over the past few weeks on the topic of gaming headphones (5.1 included). You may also find the topic of 5.1 vs stereo headphones sneaking into other seemingly unrelated threads. Use the search function.

I've only been reading this forum for a few months, but it seems to me that the frequency of headphone related threads has skyrocketed recenlty. Is it just my imagination?

No. I've noticed it too. I believe that Mister X is partly to blame. He is the resident forum dedicated headphone amp builder. As a customer of his in the past, I endorse him a lot as well.

yep. same thing happened to my friend's pair. but he discovered that it went out was because the headset had severed its own wiring for the mic when he put it up and down. im not entirely sure of all the details, but thats why his mic went out.
