Right now I have a pair of Plantronics audio .90's and I thought I was in love with them until I started reading this board. Thanks alost guys, no seriously you have opened my eyes to bigger and better things. My sound card is an Audigy 2 zs and I am looking to upgrade and get a new set of heaphones, I don't want an amp and would like to spend in the 50 to 75 dollar range. Please hit me with some suggestions. Oh and if it matter these will be used strictly for gaming playing Raven Shield and Athena Sword. Thanks.
 
I am not sure what the difference is, but right now I have the .90's and I am guessing they are closed. So I will say closed. What are the advantages to each?
 
Closed headphones keep your music in, and outside noise out. Open headphones tend to sound better.
 
You know.... I think im using those same exact headphones... Been using them for a year, my first pair broke a year ago and they RMAed it

(It was actually kind of funny, because i filled out the wrong web form, and then called them... The phone line said i was out of warranty, but a week later, a package w/ the headphones came in the mail...Heh... Nice and easy, especially since i couldnt fill out the whole webform)

I just upgraded my soundcard, but i was thinking of getting a new set of headphones, also hopefully ones w/o an amp. I' m not sure of the sound quality on these, because ive never really used good ones...
 
Still looking for suggestions, make model and around 50 to 75 bucks and they will be used for gaming. Does not matter if they have a mic or not just want the best sound for that price range. thanks
 
I have a set of Sennheiser HD497s which were in that kind of ballpark, very good sound for the money.
 
Cool I been looking back through posts and realized this same questions has been asked about one millions times, if not the same it was very closely related. I see where people recommend open and closed headphones, I don't understand what the difference is besides the obvious, could someone post a link that explains the differences. Also I can see I will probably end up with something made by either Sennheiser or Grado so if someone could highlight models from Grado I would appreciate it.

I wouldnt recommend those for gaming, as the sound stage is nearly non-existant. For music they would be my top pick in the pricerange though. The HD497s soundstage is fairly good IMO, and can be had for around $50.
