Hey,

Im thinking of getting the Sennheiser HD595 Stereo Headphone and i was wondering if I needed an external amp to power it. I currently have a Audigy 2 Platinum Pro. If I do need a amp, which one should I get?

Whats the difference between the HD580 and the HD595?? Im getting the HD595 for free from a buddy, so im not sure I want to change it. Should i still get a AMP for the HD595?? Also, if anyone has the HD595, can you tell me your experiences with them.

dont know, i dont have any experiences/knowledge with the HD595s. check headphone.com or sennheisers website. look for their "impedence" it it's more than say, 100 ohms, you'll need/want an amp. the 580s have an impedence of i think 300 ohms, so they must be amped to even listen to them at a resonable volume. Hope this helps.
 
the impendance of the hd595s is relatively low so you won't need an amp but it has been my experience that an amp will improve the sound quality even when one is not needed.
if you do decide on an amp i would highly recommend a DIY since you get better bang for you buck. commerical ones are ridiculously overpriced IMHO.
 
That is a common misconception.....
Low Z cans usually need a amp worser then High Z cans because they require more current to drive them. :)

On the other hand, most High Z cans are much lower in sensitivity than most Low Z cans are. That is due to the fact that High Z cans require a much larger voltage swing than Low Z cans of equal dB SPL @ 1mW efficiency. Ever try a High Z can on a portable player, only to find out that the sound is too low in volume compared to a Low Z can of equal or lower "sensitivity"?

And most of today's portable players - and many computer sound cards, as well - have both low voltage and low current output, making them practically impossible to get a proper match with any cans or earbuds at all whatsoever - the only good match is a High Z (600 ohms or higher) can that is extremely high in dB @ 1mW "sensitivity" (at least 140 dB/mW), which practically doesn't exist at all. Thus, one must make compromises there.

The Go Vibe are battery powered. I use a rechargeable with some spars. The Homevibe also on that site can be bought with wall plug in option. It costs little more but if you are not going to go mobile with an Ipod or something then that might be the better option.
