Headphone mic mod problem!

So I bought a pair of samson sr850s from amazon the other day. I needed a mic so I searched the internet for a boom mic mod and found the labtec 7300 mic. I ordered that from amazon. My old headset was a turtle beach x12. It had a built in mic that worked fine. When I hooked the labtec 7300 up to my computer I got no response. It did not work at all. Not low volume or anything. I tried every troubleshooting thread around, but nobody seemed to have my problem. I figured it was defective or I broke it while cutting off the plastic I didn't need so I reordered another one. I told the guy to test it before he sent it to me, and he told me he tested it and it was ok. When I got the second one in, it was the same problem.

My turtle beach headset mic works perfectly, but the external mic from labtec doesn't work.
