Headphone HRTF / Virtual Surround Support in Linux?

With the new SteamOS being released today I thought about giving it a test ride to see how things fare. However, one big thing for me that I can't find out about is virtual headphone support - I have a Titanium HD right now and I really enjoy using CMSS 3D when playing FPS games.

Are CMSS 3D / Dolby Headphones / SBX Pro Studio Surround or the like supported by any sound cards that can run in Linux, or is my only option getting an Astro Mixamp? Does the Mixamp do Dolby Headphones? I have a Maximus VI Gene if that helps as well. Thanks in advance.

Proprietary audio codecs that are payware on a FOSS OS? I'm out of the loop from the *nix world for 2 years... But I'll take "hell no", for $2000 Alex.

Wow, real helpful. Guess ATI and Nvidia don't do proprietary drivers that fulfill all their functions either. Same thing with Matlab and AutoCAD...

There is no payware to speak of when you buy the card either...?

Really?

Is there ANY audio card maker that makes any official Linux driver? I certainly cannot name one, and given how primitive the Linux sound stack can be I'm not surprised.

I said "or the like" - it does not have to be their proprietary software functions. And yes, when I looked I saw that Creative and Asus has open-source variants using ALSA which dampened my hope, but you never know. Given that others have developed their own audio software support on the Windows side to fix what ails the audio card scene and that is how linux has functioned for the past fifteen years when it comes to supporting "gaming" hardware I thought there might be a chance.

Anyways, I'm asking because I don't know and I was not looking for your smart ass response from last night as an answer. Given that you have been "out of the loop" for two years you are not lending a whole lot to the discussion anyways, but thanks for your input.
