Hey all!

I'm wondering if i'm using my Sony MDR-V6 to it's best potential right now. I have a Powermac G4 MDD that i'm connecting my V6 to via the headphone jack in the front. I have to put the main volume slider at 80% and the iTunes volume slider at 100% to get it at a decent volume.

Does that mean I should get a amp? If so, will it really make a difference in terms of sound quality? So with this amp, I would put the volume on the computer really low and just play with volume control on the amp?

I am also getting an X-fi soon for my PC. Will that be enough to power my V6?

I've been looking at the c-moy amps on ebay...
 
The Turtle Beach Advantage Micro does a nice job of amping less demanding headphones. If you were going the CMOY route, I'd highly suggest building your own over getting one on ebay.
 
Get an amp. Even my non-techie girlfriend noticed a big difference between unamped and amped on my 50 ohm Senn 595s which supposedly "don't need an amp".

I think it will be a night and day difference for you. You would just set windows volume 50% or so then control it via the amp but I am not possitive, may be different on different cards.
 
With the X-fi, the addition of a cmoy headphone amp would maybe make the bass a little tighter and impactful, but differences are of the last 5% variety.
