I just want to find out if its possible to connect some Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones to my Xbox 360 Elite from its optical out jack on the HDMI sound adapter.

Would I need to use an X-Fi sound card for its optical in and 3.5mm (1/8") out? Or would any other brand's models be suitable for what I need accomplished?

If that is possible is there some way I can utilize the CMSS-3D (or whatever 3D sound program the particular card utilizes) on the sound card to get simulated surround from the headphones?

Is there a stand alone unit somewhere that I can buy that can convert the digital 5.1 from the Xbox into simulated 5.1 on the DT770's?

Thanks in advance.

I have come across this JVC SU-DH1 Surround Sound Headphone Adaptor that should work for what I need.

Now my question is has anyone had any experience with this unit positive or negative?

Edit: I'm not sure as to whether this belongs in this forum or the console gaming forum. I tend to avoid the console forum whenever possible. If its in the wrong forum though, mods please move it to the right one.

The X-Fi routing method would work if you just want sound but you can't apply CMSS3D to external sources to the best of my knowledge. That JVC unit or the Astro A40 MixAmp are your best bets without spending too much money, and the latter seems to be the superior product.
