heatset.. so that would be a microphone + headphones in one unit..

I want a headset so i can be like madonna at a concert... ;)

LOL.. nah it's for gaming

Are there any that are good AND comfortable? I have a pair of Altec Lansing AHS-502's and they stink. They sound good and work well, but get uncomfortable after only 15 minutes of use. By an hour into wearing them I'm ready to throw the damn things in the trash...

I have these and they are very comfortable and very good sound.

Those look a lot more comfortable then the 497's I bought my wife. I might have to give them a go... ;)

Here's what I'm using:

They have a mic you can attach; however I don't have any need for it at this time. If you go to pricegrabber.com you should see where you can order these from. CompUSA has them, but only as delivery, no in store.

Headphones or headset? This works for both...and in 5.1 surround sound.

My next upgrade will be a monitor...but that's a pricey upgrade.

Plantronics Audio .90. They're about 30 bucks, and they rock.

QFT!!!

These cans sound freakishly decent for the price...the bass response is on par with the average
Sony headphones $50 on up and the mic swings up out of the way or down, just
right in front of your mouth so you can whisper and your friends on Ventrillo or TeamSpeak
will hear you just fine.

As for long hours of comfort, they rest on your ears, so you'll need to get used to them for
the pain to slowly go away, but 1-2 hours on a new persons ears is what you should expect
for comfort, before you adjust them.

The inline volume and mic on/off switch is done nicely, and it has a lappel clip to keep close
to your person.

When at PDXLan 4.05, I saw a ton of us use these there and also at the recent Ascendancy Gaming
NEVER NEVER Lan (this past Easter).

My pc is set so the back is facing either my left or right (@ lans or home) and I use a
splitter to output from my Audigy Gamer soundcard to these headphones and my
Creative 330's and with that being said, the volume outputted from that sound card really drives these.

I've tried Logitech's new set PC Precision Headset, and they get pwned severly by the
Plantronic 90's. That logitech set has the same sound quality of the free set you got with
the Special Edition version of UT2K4, so you dont get to a point where you "feel" the bass
thump from the headphone drivers. Also the Logitech set didn't really rest against my
ears, I could only feal it slightly touch the back edge of my ears because the sorrounding
support enclosure is not adjustable.

buy.com has the Sennheiser PC150 for $31 i think, there was some complaint about how thin the cable is and that a slight pinch will break the wires inside. Anyone had any problem with that?

I have the plantronics .90 set right now, the design is good but it's been 3 months and I still can't wear them for more than an hour before feeling the burn on the ears.

If your not in a rush then go to your local EB or Gamestop (or go to ebgames.com) and pre-order Battlefield 2. They will send you a free headset with the game when it comes out in June. That way you get a great game (hopefully) and a headset as well!

Are they comfortable for long use? Several hours at a time?

I have a pair and use them at home and at LANs - even with glasses they are comfortable for long periods of time - YMMV as we are all built differently.

Plantronic Audio .90's are notorious for breaking within 6 months, so be ready to replace them frequently. You should also avoid 5.1 headphones like the plague. I have the PC150's but they're not as comfy as my Sennheiser 580s so I simply use the latter and drape the headset around my neck as a glorified microphone.

I've had mie for a month with no problems. Is there anything in particular to watch for?
Once you own them, it's too late unfortunately. 5.1 headphones are really little more than a gimmick to overcharge for cheap (although numerous) speakers. They provide poor sound quality and do not produce better positional audio than regular headphones. If you're happy with them, more power to you, but be warned when it comes time to purchase again that you will always be better rewarded to spend that cash towards better cans than the flashy but unadvantageous 5.1 phones.

This is an issue, my cat ate thru mine, luckily, I was able to fix it and regain all functionality. I have had mine for quite a while now. They are very comfortable during marathon gaming sessions, 5+ hours straight.

i've had 4 different pair of headsets and sennheiser pc150's are by far the best. they sound great, do not hurt my ears after hours of use, like all the others did, and the microphone is very clear to other players.
